As a Black American (well 1/2 black anyways) I find this photo very sad. It is plain to see where this child is coming from (lack of parenting) in life at such a young age, but what is more troubling is where this child is headed. If this photo is any indication, he/she does not have a fighting chance.
Thought provoking site as always.
I am going to link to you just as soon as I figure out the blogroll thingy.

Oh ouch. Those eyes...they stab at my very Soul. Much like those little fingers do.

I'm tired of getting the finger. I'm tired of Kid Rock and Johnny Nashville and Eminem and every other fabricated punk-style celebrity giving it, but it's more disturbing to see this child doing it. Does he even know what it means? Everything is just so cheapened these days. Good picture, though. I'll go back and look at some more.

the child in this photo is trying out what he thinks is an adult gesture. yet, it's not the hand gesture which makes him look mature beyond his years... it's his eyes. his eyes are those of a man looking out of the face of a child. powerful photo.

I agree with what lynn. says.. this image gives you a nice perspective.. of what chidren are like.. or what they are taught to be.. It is sad that children are fucked up

My husband taught in Watts, and this boy looks like a few of his students...he's seen too much too fast but still has spirit.

I love your photos.
